Beauty Reading a Letter by Lantern Light, 1855 - Handsome design of a beauty stepping out on a porch to read a letter by the light of a lantern hanging overhead. Biting a cloth, she eagerly examines the message, holding the paper between her hands, her robes loosely wrapped about her. Inside the doorway, a young kamuro or child apprentice watches, sticking out her tongue. Nice architectural detail in the setting and fine handling of the shaft of light streaming across the night scene.
