Boatman and Beauty with a Sword

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of an enraged boatman facing off against a beauty with a short sword clenched between her teeth. The boatman grips his oar with both hands, ready to use it as a weapon, leaning forward aggressively. The beauty stares back at him, her hand flung out to the side. A driving rain slants across the scene, blowing the willow branches above a swiftly flowing river. Great expressive figures by this Osaka artist, in rarely seen full oban format.

Artist - Kunihiro (active circa 1815 - 1843)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 19 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Small losses at edges, a few wormholes, repaired. Slight toning, soiling, and rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
