The Second Army Battles at Port Arthur, 1894

Comments - Dramatic depiction of Japanese and Chinese forces battling at Port Arthur during the Sino-Japanese War. In the center, a Japanese officer on horseback slices through the pole arm of an approaching enemy on a black horse, sending him tumbling head forwards over his mount. At the same time, a shell explodes behind him in a burst of red flames and debris, sending a Chinese warrior onto his back amidst a cloud of smoke. At right, another Japanese soldier tackles a foe, gripping him by the throat as he yanks on his ponytail. A dynamic design.
