Courtesans Relaxing in a Garden, 1879

Comments - Charming scene of courtesans relaxing in a garden in springtime. Two women at left sit in Western style wooden chairs with padded seats, while a beauty at right sits on a bench covered with a floral cloth. The young kamuro or child apprentice beside her looks up at the birds fluttering past the blossoming cherry tree above. Nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Tape and paper remnants on reverse at corners from previous mounting. Losses and thinning at edges, repaired. Slight toning, creasing, and soiling, a few stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
