Floral Exhibition at Asakusa Kinryuzan: Peonies, 1879

Comments - Lovely scene of beauties enjoying a floral exhibition. At right, a standing woman admires a blossoming peony bush in a large gray container, while a beauty kneeling below smiles as she holds up a potted flowering plant. In the room at upper left, a woman carries a tray with a tall pitcher on it, the table beside her covered with dishes of food and goblets. The rooftop of Asakusa Kinryuzan Shrine can just be seen above the purple clouds at upper right. Nicely detailed with embossing in the white kimono and fine bokashi shading in the sky and clouds.

Artist - Chikashige (active circa 1869 - 1882)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 18 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. A few small wormholes, small tear, repaired. Slight toning, creasing, and soiling, a few stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
