Beauties in an Iris Garden, 1880

Comments - Lovely triptych of beauties enjoying a visit to an iris garden. In the center, a princess stands on the wooden walkway over the water, holding a folding fan and smiling as she looks at one of her companions, who kneels beside a flower arrangement at lower left. The noblewoman is surrounded by ladies-in-waiting wearing elegant outer kimono over white robes tucked into full red pants. Irises blossom in shades of purple, with a few pink flowers and purple and white striped ones among them. Beautiful vibrant color with crisp line work, detailed with embossing in the white kimono and touches of burnishing. We've never come across this attractive summer scene before.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 5/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. A few light smudges, a few faint creases. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
