Japanese Army Advances toward Pyongyang, 1894

Comments - Dramatic image from the Sino-Japanese War of Japanese forces battling Chinese troops at Pyongyang. In the center, a row of soldiers fires into the enemy as Imperial troops rush forward, attacking the Chinese. Clouds of smoke and dust obscure the fighting, while a wounded Chinese man on horseback has fallen to the ground at lower right beneath a tree. At left, two officers on horseback survey the scene as cannons fire in the distance. A lively scene with burnished detail in the black uniforms and soft bokashi shading.

Artist - Ginko (active 1874 - 1897)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28" + margins as shown
