Raiko and His Men Subduing Shuten-doji

Comments - Incredible Minamoto no Yorimitsu (Raiko) and his men subduing Shuten-doji, the horrible demon of Oeyama. At top center, one samurai straddles the giant's back, wielding a length of heavy rope to tie the monster down. At left, another warrior brings a large iron club down across the demon's head. Shuten-doji grimaces with rage, clenching several arrows between his teeth, his eyes bulging. He struggles mightily, an enormous foot kicking in the air at left behind his giant sword. With his other hand he grabs an attacker by the throat, another warrior raising his sword above his head to strike. At left, Raiko watches the action from astride a dappled horse. A fantastic image from this legendary tale, wonderfully detailed and colored.
