A Complete Chronicle of the Conquest of Kagoshima: The Navy Lands at Sukuchi Village, 1877

Comments - Fantastic illustration of the Meiji Imperial Navy landing troops at Sukuchi Village during the Satsuma Rebellion. A warship can be seen at far left as smaller boats row close to land men. Rebels rush forward into the shallow water to engage the troops, fighting with swords while the soldiers fire guns and point bayonets at them. Cannons fire down at the approaching forces from atop the hill above the bay, with clouds of smoke billowing upwards. A dramatic night scene filled with action and energy, nicely detailed with burnishing in the boats and bokashi shading in the smoke and night sky.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
