Raising Silkworms

Comments - Handsome print from a series depicting the stages involved in sericulture, the ancient art of producing silk. Here, a beauty uses a feather to transfer eggs or tiny silkworms from a sheet of paper. The woman at right stands a rack with trays of silkworms covered with mulberry leaves, their only food. At upper left, a niche holds a scroll of the patron deity of sericulture, while small images of horses hang from above. An interesting subject.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color as shown. A few holes, repaired. Slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
