Original Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichimura Uzaemon XII as Nagoya Sensaburo, 1848

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichimura Uzaemon XII as Nagoya Sensaburo, also known as Nagoya Sanza, in the play "Mukashigatari inazuma zoshi." He eavesdrops outside a doorway, smiling as he holds his sword. He wears a blue kimono patterned with his trademark swallows in rain, with gray geometric print inserts over a red under robe with a blue collar, tied with a yellow obi. The panels behind him are beautifully detailed to simulate wood grain, with a design of a cherry or plum tree covered with white blossoms. An attractive design.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 3/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Tiny loss at corner, a few small tears at edge, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
