View of a Descent by Many Types Making a Pilgrimage on Mt. Fuji, 1883

Comments - Fascinating scene of pilgrims making their way down the side of Mt. Fuji, several having mishaps along the way. At upper left, a pair of men riding in a hot air balloon wave and gesture at the pilgrims as they sail through the sky. At lower left, a pilgrim tumbles backwards as he loses his footing, his hat rolling away. At lower right, a crouching man throws up, his companions holding their noses and turning away. At top center, a young wearing a kimono and a boatman dressed in a tie-dyed blue shirt cling to rocky ridges, clouds drifting by below. An intriguing and unusual subject incorporating a hot air balloon. We've never come across this design before.
