Young Boy with a Miniature Firemen's Standard

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene taking place in an interior. The young boy in the center looks up with a smile as he plays with a miniature matoi or company standard used to identify fire brigades. The matron behind him stares suspiciously at the two men at left, who frown back at her. The fellow at far left wears a blue kimono patterned with bold gray scrolls, his upper body floral tattoo visible at his chest and wrists. The man at right scowls angrily, his brows furrowed, as he holds a tiny cup of sake. A handsome setting with wood panels lining the back of the room and a flower arrangement in the niche at right. Detailed with burnishing in the beauty's black collar and obi.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Separation along vertical fold in center panel, a few holes, small loss at corner, repaired. Slight soiling, creasing at edges, ink marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
