Series; The Most Dashing Men of Tokyo

Ichikawa Danjuro IX as a Fireman - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro IX as a fireman. He grips a fringed company or brigade standard called a matoi over his shoulders, looking down with a sober frown, as he pauses while climbing a bamboo ladder. He wears a quilted fireman's jacket with a design of a giant carp on it, a dotted sash knotted around his forehead. The portrait is set against a dark night sky with the silhouettes of firefighters carrying axes and red paper lanterns in the background. A terrific design with wonderful detail.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few wormholes and holes, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling and spotting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
