The Michiyuki, Act 8 from the Kanadehon Chushingura, 1898 - Lovely triptych of the eighth act of the classic kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura" illustrating the bridal journey of the lovely young Konami and her mother, Tonase. They are traveling to Yuranosuke's country estate near Kyoto for her betrothal. Here, the travelers are shown pausing to rest as they reach the top of a hill. Tonase sits on a fabric-covered trunk, smoking a pipe, as Konami shields her eyes with her hand, enjoying a view of the majestic peak of Mt. Fuji rising above bands of clouds. She wears an exquisite red-orange kimono patterned with grasses and blossoms, tied with a black obi. At left, a woman rides a horse up the path, the animal led by a groom. Vines twine around the pine tree at right, and the lake below is bordered with mountains. A beautiful subject with fine embossed detail in the white kimono collars, and burnishing in the black obi and kimono collar. A wonderful Chikanobu design.
