Meiji Empress Writing a Poem Slip

Comments - Charming triptych depicting the Meiji Empress sitting in a room at right, writing a poem slip with a brush in hand and a sheet of paper on a low black lacquer table before her. Ladies-in-waiting surround her, while at left, others admire the flowers in the garden. In the center, the emperor sits behind a cloth-covered table in another room, wearing a military uniform with fringed epaulets. A blossoming cherry tree frames the scene at right. An attractive subject, nicely detailed.
