Series; Five Cardinal Virtues of Confucianism, 1847 - 1852

Five Cardinal Virtues of Confucianism - Handsome design from a series pairing portraits with the five cardinal virtues of Confucianism. Each print depicts an individual exemplifying the selected virtue. These expressive figures are set against handsomely detailed backgrounds, and each includes a black inset with the kanji character for the virtue near the top corner. An interesting and rarely seen Edo era series. We've never come across prints from this series before.

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 3/8" + margins as shown
