Series; Manners and Customs of the Six Jewel Rivers

The Bush Clover Jewel River - Attractive image from a series pairing beautiful women with the famous Six Jewel Rivers. The courtesan here wears an elegant green outer robe patterned with red floral medallions, trimmed with black fur and edged with layers of blue brocade. Her obi features a design of flaming sacred jewels, and her hair is arranged with many hairpins and two tortoiseshell combs. The aizuri-e inset at upper left, in the shape of the Toshidama seal used by artists of the Utagawa School, encloses a view of the Bush Clover Jewel River at night, a full moon reflected on the surface of the water. A charming design and a classic Edo era beauty portrait.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A few small holes, small loss at edge, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall. series pairing beautiful women with the famous Six Jewel Rivers.
