Comments - Handsome kabuki triptych depicting Act 3 from the "Kanadehon Chushingura," the drama about the 47 ronin. Kampei and his lover, the beauty Okaru, are shown at the back gate to the palace as they prepare to elope. At left, the beauty holds Kampei's swords, ready to leave as she looks back over her shoulder at her sweetheart. Kampei pleads with her, throwing out his hand, while at right, a samurai restrains the guard trying to stop them. Nice large figures in a handsome setting.
