Original Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825) Japanese Woodblock Print
Matsumoto Koshiro V, 1813

Comments - Terrific portrait of the kabuki actor Matsumoto Koshiro V as a rogue. He grimaces furiously as he stares to the side, his elbow clamped over a banner stretched across the scene. He grips his sword with one hand while cradling the blade in the other. He wears a black and violet checked kimono over a suit of armor trimmed with swinging fringe, his short hair sticking up atop his head with the longer hair pulled back into a low ponytail and sideburns flaring out around his face. A wonderfully expressive and beautifully detailed design, with attractive color and fine bokashi shading in the night sky.

Artist - Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 10 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Paper remnants on reverse at edges from previous folio mounting. Light toning and spotting, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
