Fireworks on the River at Ryogoku, 1894

Comments - Fantastic triptych depicting a magnificent fireworks display above Ryogoku Bridge on the Sumida River. Two beauties stand on the deck of a pleasure boat at left, enjoying the cool evening breeze as explosions shower the sky with trails of red-orange sparks. The women wear colorful summer kimono patterned with delicate flowers. In the cabin of the boat at right, a man enjoys a cup of sake while a beauty plays a shamisen. A terrific view of the river crowded with boats, with wonderful detail in the bridge stretching across the background in dark silhouette. A lovely illustration of this classic summer activity. Would make an attractive framed display.
