Miyahito of the Ogiya

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Beautiful portrait of the elegant courtesan Miyahito of the Ogiya House. She wears a solid black outer robe, which contrasts beautifully with her soft rose kimono and the green obi with an intricate geometric pattern. Her hair is arranged high atop her head, adorned with a single comb and several hairpins. A classic Utamaro beauty print with a shimmering white mica background.

Image Size - 15" x 10" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants and thinning on reverse at left top and center edge from publisher's original mounting. Slight toning, a few spots, a light creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
