The Battle of Ichi-no-Tani, 1847 - 1848

Comments - Handsome scene from the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani between the Taira and the Minamoto clans. The flagship of the Taira appears at left, with their commander Taira no Tomomori standing on the upper deck, gesturing imperiously with his hand. The ship filled with warriors in armor with weapons ready. Two smaller boats approach carrying women from the shore to the safety of the ship, the Taira butterfly crest emblazoned on the cloth panels providing privacy. At upper right, a young warrior on horseback makes his way through the deep water, turning to look back over his shoulder as he attempts to escape the fighting on the beach. A beautifully detailed image from this famous conflict.

Artist - Yoshifuji (1828 - 1889)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 19 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. A few small holes, repaired. Slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
