Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) and Yasuji Inoue (1864 - 1889) Japanese Woodblock Print
Evening at Ryogoku, 1891

Comments - Handsome portrait of a beauty enjoying the evening cool at Ryogoku, smiling as she adjusts a hairpin with one hand. She wears an informal kimono patterned with plovers in flight and netting over a red under robe, tied with a yellow and olive green plaid obi. The river behind her is crowded with boats, the figures in dark silhouette against the water, with the bridge stretching across the background. A red paper lantern and a banner flutter from the bamboo framework of a water vendor's stall behind her. A charming design with wonderful detail and fine bokashi shading in the night sky.
