Ichimura Kakitsu IV as a Fireman, 1860

Comments - Terrific kabuki portrait of Ichimura Kakitsu IV as a fireman, hurrying through the night to fight a fire. He wears a beautiful quilted robe patterned with a colorful phoenix with long tail feathers over a black under garment, tied with a rust dotted sash. A blue and white cloth is knotted around his forehead, a few loose hairs blowing alongside his face. Behind him, men carry glowing lanterns through the darkness as ashes and embers blow over head. A great design with intricate detail in the quilting and a spattering of hand-applied silvery pigment to simulate the ashes.

Artist - Yoshitsuya (1822 - 1866)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight toning and soiling, a few light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
