Arranging Flowers - Lovely triptych depicting a group of upper-class beauties arranging flowers on a spring day. In the center, a woman in a crane patterned robe kneels on a cushion as she trims the leaves from a bunch of narcissus, preparing to add them to an ornate vase supported by a fish jumping up a waterfall. She smiles over her shoulder at a beauty carrying a pitcher of water. The woman behind her holds a tray with a flowering cherry branch in a handled jar. A folding screen at left depicts Mt. Fuji, with several floral arrangement set on stands before it. At left, a most unusual vase depicts a monkey holding a bowl aloft with one hand. A Western-style clock can be seen at far right with a bell on top to chime the hours. A striking design with beautiful color and detail in the sumptuous fabrics and furnishings, including embossing in the white kimono collars and burnishing in the black kimono.
