Itabashi: Inuzuka Shino with Hikiroku, Samojiro, and Dotaro, 1852 - Terrific scene from the famous story "The Biography of Nanso Satomi and the Eight Dog Warriors" (Nanso Satomi Hakkenden), a tale about eight great warriors who were the mystical offspring of a princess and a dog. Here, Inuzuka Shino clings to a willow tree with one hand as he grasps Hikiroku around the waist to save him. A fishing net is slung over one shoulder, trailing in the river below. As he holds fast to the drowning man, who slips below the water, the tattooed Sabojiro quickly swims toward him to assist. In the background, Totaro sits in a boat, unaware of the drama taking place. A butterfly-shaped inset above shows the shore at Itabashi. A great design with wonderful shading in the water, giving it the appearance of swiftly moving currents.
