Picture of Prosperity in the Eastern Capital, 1855

Comments - Attractive scene of beauties strolling along a busy street, a sign of prosperity in Edo. A woman at left smiles happily as she waves a small folding fan near her face, dressed in a red kimono with a tie-dyed pattern of waterwheels and leaves. At right, a young boy carries a cloth wrapped parcel over his shoulder as he follows the beauties. Other shoppers and pedestrians can be seen in the background, with rust and blue curtains hanging in front of the shops lining the street, and a large sign overhead. A charming subject with nice detail.

Artist - Yoshikazu (active circa 1850 - 1870)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 19 3/4" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Small tear at edge, a few small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and ink marks, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
