Nakamura Shikan IV as Kumagai Jiro Naozane

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan IV as the Minanoto general Kumagai Jiro Naozane. He leans to the side aggressively as he clenches a fan between his teeth, his eyes blazing. He wears a striking black vest patterned with a dragon emerging from swirling clouds and red flames over a fuzzy green kimono, his bushy hair sticking out atop the sides of his head. The crest of two birds on the drapery above also appears on the shoulders of his vest. A bold image, detailed with fine line work in the hair and embossing on the white cord tied around his topknot.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 3/4" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Thinning at top corners, a few small holes, repaired. Slight toning, creasing, and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
