The Siege and Submergence of Takamatsu Castle , 1864

Comments - Fantastic panoramic view of Takamatsu Castle under water, surrounded by enemy ships approaching through the rising floodwaters. In 1592, Toyotomi Hideyoshi decided to end his siege of the castle by diverting a nearby river, flooding the castle and leading to the surrender of Shimizu Muneharu, who held the castle for the Mori Clan. At bottom center, a general watches from atop a stone embankment, troops gathered behind him. An incredible scene with terrific detail. A great depiction of this legendary samurai battle tactic.

Artist - Yoshitsuya (1822 - 1866)

Image Size - 14" x 28 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small losses at edge and corners, a few holes, repaired. Slight toning, creasing, and soiling, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
