Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Danjuro VIII in Four Roles, 1854

Comments - Great kabuki print featuring portraits of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII in four roles. At upper right, he appears as the fierce Taira warrior Kagekiyo, with a striking wig and stage makeup. At upper left, he plays the folk hero, magician, and thief Jiraiya, holding a small cup of sake. Sadly, Danjuro VIII committed suicide in 1854, and this print was issued later the same year, perhaps to commemorate him. A nicely detailed design in an interesting format.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 12 3/4" x 8 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Vertical centerfold. Toning, slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
