Samurai and Beauty Dragging Armor, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a samurai watching with a frown as the beauty Osen drags a suit of armor across the floor by a dotted sash tied to the shoulder strap. She grins happily as she tugs on the suit, her plaid kimono loosely wrapped about her and her hair pulled back into a low knot with a comb slipping loose at the side. The samurai wears a blue gray coat over a striped kimono tucked up in the back and black leggings, a horned helmet in his hand. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro VIII and Bando Shika I. Nice detail in the armor and helmet.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 19 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. Thinning and small losses at edges, hole, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges, paper remnant at right edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
