Sino-Japanese War Battle along the Shore, 1895

Comments - Dramatic illustration of a battle taking place along the rocky shore during the Sino-Japanese War. At right, a Japanese officer watches the fighting from a hilltop while standing atop a Chinese flag. In the center, troops below fire shots at the enemies behind the next ridge, several lifeless bodies lying on the ground nearby. An enormous shot explodes a fortress at upper left, while smoke rises from another bastion atop a cliff at upper right. Japanese warships can be seen in the distance. A lively scene with a handsome, rugged natural setting.
