Original Kunisada III (1848 - 1920) Japanese Woodblock Print
Mashiba Hideyoshi and Young Warriors

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the play "Taikoki," based on a biography of the great leader Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Because of censorship, Toyotomi is called Mashiba Hisayoshi, shown here at right wearing a light green kamishimo over a suit of armor. He grimaces angrily at the kneeling beauty in the center, who takes hold of the sword of the young warrior standing behind her with his battle helmet in hand. At left, a samurai emerges from the foliage lifting his hat above his head, a straw raincoat tied over his armor. Nice large expressive figures set off by a deep red background, bordered with a simulated black lacquer frame.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight soiling, a few small creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
