Maple Festival, 1844 - Lovely scene of beauties enjoying an outing to view the autumn color of the maple trees, stopping at a tea stand for a break. In the center, a beauty relaxes inside a palanquin, smoking a pipe. A young waitress wearing a blue floral apron serves her a cup of tea from a red lacquer tray. Another woman sits on a bench at right, a blue and white cloth wrapped protectively around her hairstyle. At left, a beauty with a walking stick arrives followed by a girl carrying a gourd container. Chrysanthemums grow on the grassy slope at right, and maple trees covered with orange leaves frame the blue sky. An attractive design, beautifully detailed. The British Museum has this image in its collection.
