Comments - Fascinating scene of kabuki actors offstage strolling through the theater district, accompanied by beauties. Each man is identified with a red name cartouche. In the center, Ichikawa Danjuro wears Western dress composed of a long black jacket over a shirt and red vest, and striped pants. He lifts a top hat as he looks over his shoulder, a cane in his other hand. The fellow at right wearing a blue-gray coat over a dark blue kimono with a gray pattern is Ichikawa Kodanji. Red paper lanterns hang from the eaves of the teahouses lining the street, with scenes advertising kabuki plays along the building at left. An intriguing subject with expressive figures and wonderful detail. We've never seen this Chikanobu subject before.
