Angry Samurai, 1856

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty and two men in an interior. The samurai at right raises his fan angrily above his head, leaning forward with a grimace. The man sitting in the center turns his head slightly away, while the beauty grins coyly and tilts her head. At right, a red lacquer table holds bowls of food, and pink tie-dyed curtains adorned with red bows stretch across the back of the room. Each panel includes a circular inset of another character against a colorful background. Nice detail in the handsome interior setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 29" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight separation at ends of vertical fold in left panel, thinning spot at edge, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
