Lord Yoritomo and His Entourage Ford the Oi River, 1863

Comments - Fantastic scene of Lord Minamoto no Yoritomo and his entourage fording the Oi River. In a fascinating image of coordination, a group of porters with interlocked arms carries the daimyo's palanquin in the center. They are surrounded by two rows of men on horseback carrying fluttering banners and stands, with other groups positioned before and after the palanquin. A billowing cloth tent wall along the left provides privacy for the procession, with swimmers on the far left side carrying small wooden tables, one table floating by itself with a smoking firepot aboard it. An incredible image with a wealth of wonderful detail. A great subject for a samurai enthusiast, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

Artist - Yoshitsuya (1822 - 1866)

Image Size - 14" x 28 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A couple small holes, repaired. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
