Onoe Tamizo II as Ishikawa Goemon, 1879

Comments - Interesting kabuki print featuring portraits of two actors in sets surrounded by text and backed with two shaded bands of crests. The top image depicts the Osaka actor Onoe Tamizo II as the famous robber Ishikawa Goemon. He wears a purple kimono patterned with a fierce dragon and swirling clouds, looking over his shoulder with a distraught expression as he reads the last message written by his father before his death. A handsome design with an unusual format.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 9 3/4" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
