Fugitive with a Sword, 1895

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of a fugitive gripping a sword above his head as he faces an unseen enemy. He carries the severed head of a beauty under his arm, her eyes closed and her long hair cascading down his side. His outer kimono is pushed down to the waist, revealing a tie-dyed under robe with the sleeves fastened out of the way with rope. Blossoming cherry trees can be seen above the stone wall across the background, with mist rising from the water as rain slants down. A great composition with an atmospheric setting.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Small tear and a couple holes, repaired. Slight soiling and creasing, a few faint stains, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
