Series; Stories of a Hundred Heroes of High Renown, 1843 - 1844

Sasaki Takatsuna - Terrific portrait of the 12th century warrior Sasaki Takatsuna wearing a fine robe and tall black court cap over his armor. Sasaki Takatsuna is perhaps best known for racing Yoritomo's horse across the Uji River at the 1154 Battle of Uji. He leans forward in a slight bow, a folding fan in hand, a sword hanging at his side. Edged with pale blue brocade trim, the black robe features swirling gray clouds, the claws of a dragon peeking through. Wonderful detail and fine line work in the colored armor.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few marks and creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
