Procession of Yoritomo and His Troops, 1868

Comments - Terrific illustration of the Shogun Yoritomo and his troops in procession, cleverly designed so that the line of men starts at upper left and winds across and back over the scene in a flattened "s" shape. Yoritomo rides in the center on a dappled horse, wearing formal robes and in a horned helmet with a flowing white wig. A few daimyo ride horseback and some of the samurai are armed with guns with bayonets fixed. Banners flutter from two tall poles guided with wires, with smaller standards interspersed among the warriors. A handsome design with an interesting composition.

Artist - Hiroshige II (1826 - 1869)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 29" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small loss, a few small holes, repaired. Small stain, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
