Great Battle between Nitta and Ashikaga, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Incredible scene of Nitta troops gathered on the shore, watching as enemy warships of the Ashikaga Clan approach, filling the horizon with sails, blocking the ocean from view. A general sits on a folding stool at left as one of his retainers gestures at the impressive sight. Samurai are ranged along a small peninsula, forming a barrier under the pine trees with wooden shields placed edge to edge, awaiting the onslaught. A general on horseback waits fearlessly at the tip of the land. A fantastic image of massing troops on both sides of an impending battle. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A great panoramic view with wonderful detail in the armor and weapons.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 14" x 29 5/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Vertical fold a left edge of each panel. A few small losses at edges and wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few spots and creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
