Ichikawa Kuzo III and Yamazaki Sakimatsu as the Child Taro, 1870

Comments - Handsome kabuki print of a commoner carrying the young child Taro on his back. He looks over his shoulder with an angry grimace as the boy grins happily and waves both hands. The man wears a gray and blue patterned kimono over a yellow plaid tunic and a blue tie-dyed loincloth. His tightly curled hair is pulled back into a knot at the back of his head, and he carries a lantern on a bamboo pole. A diagonal band across the top features a variety of circular crests. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Kuzo III and Yamazaki Sakimatsu. Nicely composed, with expressive figures and a bold, graphic background.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Small hole, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, small spot, slight rubbing at edge. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
