From an untitled series of foreigners at home

A Foreigner's Wine Party, 1861 - Great scene of foreigners in Yokohama enjoying wine and refreshments. Two bearded men sit at a round table, the fellow at left drinking from a goblet while the man at right holds out a bowl. An elaborate centerpiece features an array of small bottles, and fruit and knives rest on the table nearby. The woman serves them from a pitcher, pausing in front of a glass window with a plaid curtain. The table at left holds a lamp with a glass globe and dangling prisms, and a bookshelf on the wall at right is filled with black volumes, each with what is supposed to be an English letter on the spine. Most interestingly, the figures and table cast shadows on the floor as in a Western design. A terrific look inside a foreign household in Yokohama, with wonderful detail in the interior setting and furnishings.
