Comments - Handsome original kakemono or vertical diptych of a young falconer. The bird perches on the gloved hand of the young samurai, tied to a red tasseled cord, looking keenly over its shoulder. The young man smiles happily, a narrow bamboo pole or crop in his other hand. He wears an intricately patterned blue striped kimono with long sleeves, tucked into gray pants. Falconry was a popular sport among the upper class during the Tokugawa period, a symbol of status and nobility. A great samurai subject and a nice choice for display.
