Delivering Enemy Heads, 1873

Comments - Intriguing kabuki scene of two samurai delivering enemy heads to a beauty. Each warrior has a cylindrical box used to contain a decapitated head as proof of an enemy's death. The beauty looks over her shoulder with a distraught expression, her mouth agape as she clutches the edges of her black floral outer robe. The men are dressed in formal court attire, wearing elegant patterned kamishimo over solid-colored kimono. Nice, large expressive figures with vivid color, bordered with a simulated red lacquer frame. Nicely detailed with a subtle burnished design in the gray kimono at left.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 27 1/2" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. A few small wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases, marks in top margin. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
