Kanadehon Chushingura, Act 2: Wakasanosuke’s Mansion

Comments - Handsome triptych depicting Act 2 of the famous kabuki play about the 47 ronin, the "Kanadehon Chushingura." At right, offended by Lord Moronao's behavior toward Lady Kaoyo, the wife of Lord Hangan, Wakasanosuke scowls as he tells his former retainer, Honzo, that he has decided to kill Lord Hangan. Honzo vows to support him. At upper left on a verandah in the distance, Oboshi Rikiya has come to deliver a message to Wakasanosuke. In the room at left, women gather excitedly around the lords' daughter Konami, contriving for her to meet Rikiya alone since she is in love with him. An interesting subject with wonderful detail in palace and its elegant furnishings.
