Ichikawa Ebizo V as Takechi Mitsuhide, 1858

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Ebizo V as treacherous Takechi Mitsuhide in the play "Ehon Taikoki." He grimaces with rage, dressed in a pale blue kamishimo over a white and yellow kimono patterned with stylized gray carp, all over a suit of armor. His hair is pulled back into a slender topknot with wings combed at the sides of his head. A cloud-like border separates the figure from samurai troops carrying banners and standards, along with red paper lanterns on poles. A nice expressive figure, with fine bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 3/4" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight separation at ends of vertical centerfold, a couple small holes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, slight rubbing at corners. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
