Original Sadatora (active circa 1818 - 1844) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty at the Sumida River

Comments - Lovely aizuri-e portrait of a beauty strolling along the Sumida River, smiling as she looks back over her shoulder. Her blue kimono is shaded from light to dark with a border of pine cones, tied with a striped obi in blue and red with a Chinese lion near the end. She lifts the edge of her robe as she walks along in wooden geta clogs, revealing her tie-dyed under robe. The water undulates with gentle waves behind her, with buildings lining the shore beyond. Aizuri-e are prints done primarily in blue, and some feature accents in red or black. A beautiful design in the rarely seen aizuri-e format.

Artist - Sadatora (active circa 1818 - 1844)

Image Size - 14 7/8" x 10"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight soiling, slight rubbing at top edge, a few light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
